Ringar AI vs Fonio: how two AI receptionists compare

Fonio is an AI phone assistant, and it is a reasonable business to compare Ringar AI against. This piece uses only the figures published on each company's own site, read on 30 September 2026.

The short version

Fonio is a Vienna-based company, and of the AI receptionists we've compared Ringar AI against, it's the one we see as the closest match to what we do -- a genuinely capable product, not a straw man. Its UK site prices in pounds, the same currency Ringar AI uses, so the figures below are a direct comparison with no conversion needed. It added UK phone numbers to its product in November 2025; Ringar AI is built for UK businesses from the outset.

Plans, side by side

Fonio's Phone Assistant has three plans, priced in pounds on its UK site:

Solo£119 (£99 billed annually)1,00011, additional £7/mo
Team£359 (£299 billed annually)3,60033, additional £7/mo

Where the two plans line up most closely

Ringar AI's effective cost per included minute is 12p on Entry, 10p on Lite and 8p on Pro. Read the same way, Fonio works out at roughly 11.9p on Solo paid monthly (9.9p billed annually) and roughly 10p on Team paid monthly (8.3p annually). At this end, Fonio's figure is competitive with Ringar AI's, sometimes fractionally cheaper on an annual plan.

Where the two diverge is allowance size and absolute cost. Fonio's smallest plan starts at 1,000 minutes for £119 a month; Ringar AI's smallest starts at 500 minutes for £60. A business that needs a few hundred minutes a month pays for a thousand it may not use on Fonio's Solo plan, or pays half as much for an allowance closer to what it actually needs on Ringar AI's Entry plan. The same pattern holds at Team (3,600 minutes, £359) against Lite (900 minutes, £90): Fonio's plans are sized for meaningfully higher call volumes throughout.

At the top tier, Ringar AI is cheaper on both counts: Pro is £320 a month for 4,000 minutes, an effective cost per included minute of 8p, against Fonio Scale's published floor of £599 a month for a minimum of 6,000 minutes (roughly 10p paid monthly, 9p annually, on the same basis).

Fonio's overage rate is £15 per 100 minutes beyond a plan's allowance, working out to 15p a minute -- meaningfully higher than Ringar AI's own effective cost per included minute on any plan (12p, 10p and 8p across Entry, Lite and Pro), and Ringar AI's pricing page sets out plainly what happens when the allowance runs out.

Where Fonio is genuinely stronger

It would be dishonest to write this comparison without saying where Fonio has a genuine edge, so here is what its own site claims:

  • A broader named integration list. Fonio's homepage lists Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot, Calendly, Trello and Notion, with more added through its changelog (n8n, Make, Airtable, Baserow). Ringar AI's integrations page names a built-in scheduler (Ringar AI Schedule), Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar and Cal.com, and a way to send call events to n8n, Zapier, Make or your own endpoint, a shorter list built around scheduling rather than a wide CRM and productivity-tool spread.

That breadth matters if a business already runs its operations through one of those named tools. It matters less if what a business needs is calls answered, booked and recorded, which is the more common starting point.

Where the numbers favour Ringar AI

  • Set up in minutes. Answer a few questions about your business during sign-up and you get a UK phone number that already knows your business and can answer callers' questions straight away.
  • A smaller starting allowance that fits a smaller business. Entry's 500 minutes for £60 is a closer match to actual UK small-business call volumes than Fonio's smallest plan, which starts at 1,000 minutes for £119.
  • Cheaper at the top tier, both in total and per minute: Pro is £320 a month for 4,000 minutes (8p a minute) against Scale's published floor of £599 for 6,000 minutes (roughly 10p a minute monthly).
  • More concurrent-call capacity at every comparable tier: up to 3 calls at once on Entry against Fonio's 1 on Solo, up to 5 on Lite against Fonio's 3 on Team, and up to 9 on Pro with no published Fonio equivalent below Scale's uncapped "custom".
  • Cheaper additional phone numbers: £5 a month each against Fonio's £7.
  • Ringar AI is a UK company built around UK numbers and UK businesses from the outset, rather than a product that added UK support to an existing multi-country platform.

Fonio's effective cost per included minute is genuinely competitive at its lower tiers, particularly billed annually, so it isn't a straightforward "Ringar AI is always cheaper" story. What it doesn't offer is a plan sized for a smaller UK business: its allowances start at double Ringar AI's entry point and jump from there, so a business with a modest, steady call volume ends up paying for headroom it doesn't need. For that business, Ringar AI's closer-fitting tiers, cheaper top end and higher concurrency at every level make it the stronger choice.

What neither company's site tells you

Fonio marks concurrency and number-inclusion details for its Scale plan as "custom". Its integrations page could not be read in full at the time of this research, so its complete list of connected tools is unconfirmed beyond what its homepage and changelog state. Ringar AI shows a concurrent-call figure on each plan (up to 3, 5 and 9 calls at the same time). If any of this matters to your decision, ask both companies directly rather than relying on a comparison page, including this one.

How to actually decide

A comparison table tells you what is published. It does not tell you how either receptionist handles your business's actual calls, your actual questions, or your actual booking flow. The honest next step is to hear it: ring the demonstration line on the homepage and ask it something your real callers ask, or book a twenty-minute call where we run through a real example from your business.
